Facades, cladding, balustrades, roofing and interior fit-out.
Applications
Architectural stainless is judged twice: once by the specifier on paper, and once by everyone who walks past it for the next twenty years. Get the grade right for the atmosphere, the finish right for the light, and the grain direction right for the panel layout.
| Part | Grade | Finish | Thickness | Standard |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rainscreen, cladding panels | 304 inland / 316L coastal | No.4, HL, 2B | 0.8 – 2.0 mm | ASTM A240, EN 10088 |
| Column covers, soffits | 304 / 316L | HL, 8K | 0.8 – 1.5 mm | ASTM A240 |
| Balustrades, handrails | 304 / 316L | No.4, HL, satin | 1.0 – 3.0 mm + tube | ASTM A240 / A554 |
| Roofing, flashings | 304 / 316L | 2B | 0.4 – 1.0 mm | ASTM A240 |
| Structural brackets | 304 / 316L | No.1, 2B | 3 – 20 mm | ASTM A240 / A276 |
| Street furniture | 316L | No.4, bead blast | 1.5 – 5.0 mm | ASTM A240 |
| Distance to coast | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Over 10 km, rural or inland city | 304 | No chloride load beyond normal urban atmosphere |
| 1 – 10 km | 304 with regular cleaning, or 316L for visible faces | Airborne salt is present but diluted; dirty surfaces hold it |
| Under 1 km, or direct sea spray | 316L | Chloride deposition is continuous |
| Splash zone, offshore, ship fittings | 2205 duplex | 316L can pit under continuous wet chloride |
304 on a seafront hotel. The most expensive mistake in the trade. It looks perfect for eighteen months, then tea-stains and pits along the weather side.
Mixing 2B and No.4 on one elevation. 2B reads as flat grey, No.4 as warm satin. Side by side they never match.
Ignoring the fixings. Stainless panels with galvanised or mild-steel brackets fail at the bracket, not the panel. Specify stainless fixings and isolate dissimilar metals.
Send the elevation drawing with panel sizes and the site location — we will confirm grade, grain direction and a single-lot supply plan.
